E Walnut St Parking Code Update

Dear Resident,

The City of Kent, in coordination with the Fire Marshall’s office, has evaluated parking on E Walnut St (near the west end of the road) and found that parking restrictions are needed. Kent City Code 13.01 requires a fire access route with a minimum unobstructed street width of 20 feet for emergency vehicles.

Since this section of E Walnut St is 20 feet wide, there is not enough width for on-street parking. Restricting parking in Kent requires a change to the City Code. We anticipate making the proposal to City Council in December.

We realize these proposed restrictions will create an additional burden on neighborhood parking, so we want to hear your feedback on this important issue.
