Dear Resident,
The City of Kent, in coordination with Kent Police Department, has evaluated parking on 80 Ave S-S 261 St-79 Ave S-S 266 St (from S 259 St to Central Ave S) and found that parking restrictions are needed. Kent City Code 13.01 requires a fire access route with a minimum unobstructed street width of 20 feet for emergency vehicles.
Since 80 Ave S and S 261 St are about 20 feet wide, there is not enough width for on-street parking. Additionally, parking restrictions are being proposed on both sides of 79 Ave S and S 266 St from 10 pm to 6 am due to concerns regarding overnight parking. Restricting parking in Kent requires a change to the City Code. We anticipate making the proposal to City Council in December.
We realize these proposed restrictions will create an additional burden on neighborhood parking, so we want to hear your feedback on this important issue. If you have any questions or comments, feel free to contact me at 253-856-5571, email at RBrown@KentWA.gov, or fill out the quick three-question survey below.
Sincerely, Rob Brown, P.E. Transportation Engineering Manager
