Dear Resident,
The City of Kent, in coordination with the Fire Marshall’s office, has evaluated parking on SE 266 Pl (132 Ave SE to the west end of the road) and found that parking restrictions are needed. Kent City Code 13.01 requires a fire access route with a minimum unobstructed street width of 20 feet for emergency vehicles. In addition, Kent Design and Construction Standards Manual 6.2.G does not allow parking in the cul-de-sac.
SE 266 Pl is 28 feet wide with a narrower 20 feet wide section in the middle. Parking is permitted on one side of the street where the roadway is 28 feet wide, but parking is restricted on both sides where the roadway narrows to 20 feet.
Restricting parking in Kent requires a change to the City Code. We anticipate making the proposal to City Council in December.
We realize these proposed restrictions will create an additional burden on neighborhood parking, so we want to hear your feedback on this important issue. If you have any questions or comments, feel free to contact me at 253-856-5571, email at RBrown@KentWA.gov, or fill out the quick three-question survey below.
Sincerely, Rob Brown, P.E. Transportation Engineering Manager
