The City of Kent is developing a Target Zero Action Plan (TZAP) to improve transportation safety in Kent, working towards eliminating fatalities and serious injuries due to crashes. When every loss of life is a tragedy, the City of Kent wants to address transportation safety concerns by reviewing locations where crashes have occurred and where you feel unsafe walking, rolling, biking, and driving.

The 2024 Kent Target Zero Action Plan is the next evolution of the Local Road Safety Plan (LRSP), expanding the transportation safety conversation. The City of Kent’s LRSP is a data-driven analysis of crash patterns on Kent roadways. The LRSP recommends cost-effective solutions for projects in alignment with the principles of the 2021 Kent Transportation Master Plan, the Target Zero: Washington State Strategic Highway Safety Plan from the Washington Traffic Safety Commission, and the Systemic Safety Project Selection Tool from the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA). The LRSP is updated every two years and is required by the Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) to be eligible for certain grant programs, and is an important part of understanding and expanding safe transportation across the City.

We heard from hundreds in the first phase of engagement - both online and at in-person events. Thank you! The project team is compiling the results and entering a second phase of engagement - applying potential systemic solutions to where types of crashes are at risk of happening.

Take a look at our second round of engagement materials, and stay tuned for the draft plan in Fall of 2024!
