Dear Resident,
The City of Kent, in coordination with the Fire Marshall’s office, has evaluated parking on 40 Ave S (37 Pl S to the south end of the road) and found that parking restrictions are needed. Kent City Code 13.01 requires a fire access route with a minimum unobstructed street width of 20 feet for emergency vehicles. In addition, Kent Design and Construction Standards Manual 6.2.G does not allow parking in the cul-de-sac.
Since 40 Ave S is 20 feet wide, there is not enough width for on-street parking. Therefore, parking restrictions are being proposed on both sides of 40 Ave S including the cul-de-sac. Restricting parking in Kent requires a change to the City Code. We anticipate making the proposal to City Council in December.
We realize these proposed restrictions will create an additional burden on neighborhood parking, so we want to hear your feedback on this important issue. If you have any questions or comments, feel free to contact me at 253-856-5571, email at RBrown@KentWA.gov, or fill out the quick three-question survey below.
Sincerely, Rob Brown, P.E. Transportation Engineering Manager
